Actually, most of the later Mk 2s got just a plain VW
symbol in the "center thingy."

I don't think it was limited to Wolfies.  It seems as
though most of the '84-'85 cars had leather, but when the
16v was introduced they went to a plain wheel for the 8v. 
(Didja ever noticed how '86 8v seats SUCK for bolstering as
well?)

That's more fuzzy...   I think it was similar to the
steering wheel thing.  '84-'85 leather, the rest weren't -
except the 16v.  (But hell, I dunno - I had a 16v with
leather awhile back and it had the cheapie shift knob...)

Just adding to the confusion.
