Re: 16V Scirocco (tranny blow up)

I think that they are talking about just dumping the shifter into 2nd and
not
rev matching or clutching properly. In other words poor driving will stress
the car
and shorten the life of all the components that are abused. I would just get
a new
tranny and keep down shifting if the statement were 100% true. VW's are
driver's cars.
The car is not some $100,000.00 sports car so Drive it. Many VW's are driven
by people who do not have much money and do not care about cars.
Usually they don't change the fluids and don't maintain the car. Then it
breaks
and the repair bill is too high to fix it properly so they dump the car. The
next
owner gets the stressed components and the car breaks. If you owned the
car its entire life you can claim that your driving style is within the
tolerance
of the design of the transmission. More often the previous owner shifted
poorly
for years and you just got a thrashed tranny with 150K on the same oil. I
bet stopping
the car with the tranny, stalling, does not help its longevity too. The
bottom line is just
drive the car and if it breaks fix it or get a better Scirocco. You should
try to drive
smooth and not stress the car too much and always down shift. The breaks are
dangerous on the turns.
