In prep for a better lump (engine) down the road you should swap the
single down pipe for a dual downpipe from an early Mk1. The header and
down pipe combo will let more power flow. 

Needing a O2 sensor fitting usually eliminates the diesel's as donors
but it might work for a given car. Most folks think the manifolds from
gas chewers have had an easier life, take it for what it's worth.
