>Dear Owen,
>Thank you for writing back but it's too late to help but I have to tell you
>what happened anyway. About a year ago I came across your web site and
>loved your car. I had my red 16v '88 Scirocco for over seven years and it
>was my baby and I'm a girl, go figure! Anyway we went up to Mount Baker
for
>my b-day in July and my timing belt went. Granted no one told me about
>needing to replace it every so many miles because I would have. I even had
>an Excel spreadsheet on all work that had been completed to keep it running
>in excellent condition. Anyway I had to rent a U-Haul truck to tow it home
>and I'd never driven a truck, only my little sports car so it was rough!
My
>daughter and I were white knuckled all the way down the mountain and then
>when we were on I-5
>South bound out of Bellingham I could have swore that you drove right past
>me. I'm not sure if it hurt or helped to have the beautiful car pass me by
>but at the time I think it helped. So I got it to my trustworthy mechanic
>all the way to Federal Way, WA. which is why I towed it all that way.
While
>it was at the mechanics shop on the waiting list to be fixed was when I
>wrote you. Then a week later my mechanic calls to tell me that all the
>valves were bent and it would be spendy to fix and over the weekend thieves
>had come into his lot and stripped my car. They took the seats, ripped the
>roof interior to get to the antenna, took the grill, I think even the
carpet
>and my heart was broken. Knowing it would cost a great deal and after much
>thought I had to walk away from a car I thought I would have forever. I
got
>an insurance settlement and got a Honda Civic '97 HX. It's nice and I'm
>learning to really shift down to try and get the power that I'm so used to,
>'cause it sure aint there in fourth and fifth! but it has a V-tech engine
>(not turbo) and it's reliable for me to road trip alone with my daughter
in.
>But I could'nt look at the Scirocco after it had been so trashed, my
>mechanic had to get the remaining things out for me. So my last memory is
a
>of good one of a sunny day, on my birthday cruisin down the mountain
>highway, music cranked, that beautiful hum of the engine- and then silence.
>I will miss it always! Anyway you don't have to write me back but I am
>curious, was it you that passed me, if you remember it? Take care. Shawn
