Rear disc conv. - performace upgrade

You are correct sir. There is no real benefit to rear discs in terms of stopping distance. This topic was discussed ad nauseum a few months back and no one seemed to come to a consensus, except that there was better pedal feel on cars w/ rear discs. Having had an 8v and now having a 16v I would say that the pedal feel is a lot better on the 16v (having stainless steel lines doesn't hurt either).

The only reason I see for switching to rear disks would be if:

1) you want a project
2) like the aesthetics of rear calipers
3) ease of maintenance of rear disks--- maybe offset by the tendency for rear disks to lock up and require replacement

An easier swap would be to put on bigger rear rotors that came on later A2s. Don't ask me which A2s, but I know the swap requires a lot less stuff. I don't have details, but I know some people on the list have done this. Potterman for example, on his beast MKI.

Better braking can be achieved without going to rear disc. Just get some
decent pads, rotors, fluid :) Correct me if I am wrong, but on cars as small
as ours, it wont make too much of a difference going to bigger brakes and
rear discs unless you need to stop a 200hp scirocco? I drove an 8v car with
super blue fluid, stainless lines, decent pads, and crossdrilled rotors. It
stopped 10x better than my 16v car, and the pedal was firm :) Any other
ideas or anything? or if I am completely wrong someone correct me. Thanks,
	Gary Huff

i've been asking around about this and the price i've found to be most
consistent is $150. i don't know how hard it would be or anything like
that, but i too are interested in the better braking.
