16v timing question




ok....i swapped in a non-leaking distributor into my 16v today, but i
accidentally put the hold down bolt in the wrong hole in the head....so my
timing was very retarted..........somoene pointed out the wrong position
of the bolt and i have since fixed it.......but i have a friend hwo just
did a 16v conversion who is having similiar problems, (and possible other
ones)


he did a complet motronic conversion.....he claims to have times it
correctly (i wasnt there)....is it possible to get the timing light to
time it with the distributor in the wrong bolt hole?....

he gets what feels like the rev limiter hitting, but it does it at around
4200rpms.....is it possible to have the timing so far advanced (and still
have a semi-normal sounding idle) that all power is lost there?.....he
gets small backfires when lettin off the throttle when this happens...

any insights would be appreciated
