Re: [non-rocco] high octane (mix your own?)

I have some information on mixing your own octane boost, if you're
interested. The gist of it is that you can buy the same chemicals at a
paint store (Xylene and Toulene at approx $3/gal) for a whole lot less than
you pay at the auto parts store for a little 16 oz bottle of octane boost.

An important point to keep in mind: you must mix in 10% of this octane boost
to raise 92 octane premium to 94.5 octane. So if 94 octane fuel is
available at the pump, buy it. Likewise, if you really need 100 octane
fuel, you're still better off buying it at the pump. (I'd be hesitant to
mix 30% of ANYTHING with my gas for fear of harming the fuel system and/or
engine.)
