Whenever you ask a motor to work harder, it increases the wear and tear on it
-no matter what the design. So, this part of your statement is mostly accurate.
However, mods like freer flowing exhausts, for instance, increase the engine's
efficiency which means more power output with the same amount of work. -or, the
same amount of power output for less work.

What's the difference between a 1.8 and a 1.7l motor besides 64cc? They're such
simliar motors that I beg to differ with this ascertation. Nor do I believe that
the bolt-on speed parts that one can install on these motors are actually
"meant" necessarily for the 1.8l.
