Those two are very interchangeable . My current scirocco has the complete 
drivetrain and suspension that I took off of my 84 GTI when I decided it was 
time to retire the chassis. This includes the 2.0 16v , 4k tranny, front 
brakes , control arms, shocks and springs, rear beam , rear brakes , and even 
exhaust . 

Thats the beaty of the VW . If you total one out just get a similar chassis 
and swap the goodies . 
now that I think about it my car has parts from both sciroccos , MK1 thru 3 
golf and even some Passat and Jetta 2
