used in the U.K. (and other European countries) as opposed to the octane ratings
we see at the pumps here in the U.S.? There are terms like "research
octane" and "anti-knock index" and so-forth that would be nice to

pretty sure when someone from the U.K. says they are running 98 octane petrol,
it is NOT equivalent to 98 octane on our scale. (It's a lower number on

side note, I'm not filling up at Texaco again. After doing so in Portland
(on the way back up to Seattle), I noticed some knock every so often when I
stepped on the throttle. Just a couple knocks/pings before the Motronic
detected it and retarded the timing, but my point is that I've never heard the
car do that before (even with the turbo). Back to Chevron I
