Silicone does work, and is probably a main ingredient in products like
Armorall, which many of us don't think too highly of.  It's been said
that silicone acts like a 'leeching' agent on plastic, replacing/pulling
out vital oils and actually drying them out worse as the silicone turns
into vapors.  This of course requires another dowsing of silicone, and
the cycle continues.  Forever Black is a black dye, and actually fixes
the problem, for months or often years.  Yes it's expensive, but it
actually works, with no side effects.  I've used it with good results
and would recommend it.  I've also used Mothers back-2-black, which is
alright, but appears to look somewhat like Armorall (whitish liquid)...
