intake cam timing...

ok...a friend of mine and i installed an intake cam in my 1.8 16v tonight
and after installing, i left the timing on the distributor exactly as it
was.......when driving, i notice a little loss in the low end, but once it
gets around 4k+ the thing just seems to scream :).......

is there a need to advance the distributor for this cam?.....if not will a
slight advance regain some of the low end?
