  i have to agree with the other posts. call different dealers. it
doesn't matter if the part has "supposedly" been redone or is "okay".
you have the recall notice in hand which obviously means that the recall
was not performed and there still is the potential for hazard. it's not
your fault if the dealership was lazy and never reported the recall
performed. how are you supposed to know (especially when you buy the car
used)? after i realized i was being jerked around by one dealership
(porsche, bmw, vw, audi) i called the other dealership (ferarri,
lambourgini, lotus, bmw, audi, vw, land rover...) and they had no
problem replacing my part. i only mention the makes of the cars they
sell because of the irony of repairing a beat up scirocco. at any rate,
call, call, and call again and someone will perform the recall.
  does anyone know if the repair will be performed outside of the state
in which you reside? meaning, if you have a friend in ohio and your
dealership in new york refused to perform the recall, could you take it
to ohio and have it done while staying with a friend?
