Stay away from sand if possible. Use a fine plastic powder that should
be available from a body shop supplier. If you have severe rust you'll
most likely have to use sand, but use the finest grain sand you can.
Sand blasting pits and weakens the metal. Not a real big deal on heavy
guage steel but an issue to consider none the less. Use
plastic/fiberglass filler after blasting. Then sand down and use regular
spot putty to fill any imperfections. HTH.
