corner markers

Does anyone remember the pics of the red mk1 with the
blacked out corner markers.  I wuz just wondering if
anyone had done this.  Are there covers made by a
company or are these just painted.  The thought had
crossed my mind to smooth out the surface and cover it
in tint.  Any advise would really help.
