Try pushing down like you are going for rev. But don't go all the want to the 
left let out the clutch slow and see which way you go.  If you go fwd you 
found 1st if you go in rev try again a couple times it should be there.  If 
you don't like shifting into 1st this way (I can't imagine anyone would, i 
hated it) you need to adjust the lever on the end of the shaft that your 
shifter rotates and moves in and out, Bentley shows you how real good like
