Re: Sad day in 'rocco land......

Hmmm... drive flange oil seal leak. Bummer. OK, is it coming out of
where the flange goes into the transmission, or is it coming out of the
inner CV joint? If it's coming out of the CV joint, no big deal, you
should repack the CV joint and replace the little cap in the middle of
the drive flange (you'll see it when you take the CV joint off). If it's
the drive flange oil seal, meaning the oil is coming out in between the
flange and the transmission, then it's a much bigger deal, requiring
special puller tools and such. Some people say that once these go, it
usually means that there is play in the final drive, and when you
replace the seal, it will just go again soon. In this case, a rebuild or
new trans is in order. But I don't know if this is really the case, I've
just heard it - sounds plausible to me, though - drive flange is moving
around, causes seal to leak. Replace seal, same thing will happen again.

Where do you live? Don't you live in NH someplace? So do I. Maybe
you could come over to my place next week sometime (I'll be home from
college) and we could check it out.
    Good luck!
