The dist. sends a signal to the computer. The computer takes this,
and either grounds or ungrounds one side of the coil(coil -ve). The other side
of the coil is connected to 12V. Grounding the coil -ve starts the coil
charging
process, while ungrounding it causes the spark.

  Things to check:
 Did you remove a plug and crank the engine to see if you were getting any
spark
 at all? It may be possible to get a spark that is so badly out of time, it
seems
 like it isn't sparking.
 12V at one side of coil?
 12V at ignition module(computer)?	     
 Have you verified that the ignition module is properly grounded?
