transfer pump question

I have been having load hesitation (mostly going up hills) with my 85 roc.
I have replaced many things but to no avail. I finally correlated the
hesitation problem with low fuel (below ½ tank). I recently noticed that
when the hesitation begins it is intermittent and when the fuel gets lower
it is not a load hesitation problem because it starts hesitating while
under no load. I also noticed that during this time that the fuel pump
starts making noises like it is getting no fuel, but there is a little more
than ¼ tank and when I fill the tank up the problem goes away. It sound
like the lift pipe or tube from the transfer pump is broken. Could
someone, who has had the transfer pump out of their Roc, please describe to
me what the lift tube looks like so I can decide whether I need a new
transfer pump or simply a new lift tube. I remember a string maybe 2-3
years ago when someone had the same problem but could not find it in my
achieve. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
