    I saw a print ad for a local tool supply house (Okc, Ok) that had two
advertised, a hobbyist quality pump for abou $60 and a pro quality unit for
about $250. The tools of the trade are available to anyone. The hard part is
acquiring the refrigerant, especially R12. A decent set of guages for R12 or
R22 can be had for $30-$40. Thanks to price gouging a set of 134a guages are
around $100, go figure. It's not rocket science just job security for the
a/c techs made worse by the EPA. Check your local used bookstores or
vo-tech's for textbooks on the subject. Good luck.
