should I be concerned?

Quickie question:

I've got a 16v for sale, and I figured I'd better take the
thing around the block to make sure it still runs alright. 
My concern was when I was nearing home and the car was
fully warmed, I wound it out pretty good from a stop.  At
the end of 2nd at around 6800 rpm the car bogged and I got
a HUGE cloud of oil smoke.  I immediately let off things
and shifted throught the rest of the gears into 5th.  The
smoke cleared away and I haven't seen a trace of it since. 
(That includes winding up to around 6500 again a couple
times)  To be fair, the car hadn't really been driven
(started a few times, but not driven) in the past month and
a half.  Was this likely due to it sitting for awhile?
