Re: installing a new oil pump



I would be very careful! Running the engine with no oil pressure can trash
the bearings VERY quickly.

When I first install a fresh engine I use a power drill and a slotted 1/4"
rod to "pressure up" the oil system. Techtonics  sells the tool or you can
just fabricate your own (use the bottom of the distributor shaft for a
guide).

To pressure up the system...
1. Remove distributor
2. Place rod in chuck of drill
3. Mate end of rod (slot) with oil pump drive
4. Run drill until pressure comes up
5. re-install distributor and start her up.
