Help!! continued fuel pump?

Spoke to a mechanic earlier...he seems to think that since I recently
had my transfer pump (inline fuel pump) go out and drove with out it for
a month, that I could have trashed my external fuel pump and that could
cause my problem.  Has anybody ever experienced that?
