As far as defects go(orange peel,dust, runs, etc) it really helps to prep really, really good of course and then wet sand and buff. This is an art. Paint it yourself and right away bring it to a professional to have it done. Asuming its not too bad. When done it makes a HUGE difference. Other advice is to read some good books on the subject.
