I've always heard that there's barely enough metal in a 1.8 to take it to a 
2.0...... much less a 2.2.   Right off the bat I think COOLING problem 
because you're barely going to have any metal left between the cylinder wall 
& the cooling jackets.  I even think I heard the godly Potterman talking 
about it this past weeekdend at waterfest If i'm not mistaken. The 
difference, even just visually, is huge between the sizes of a 1.8 and a 2.0 
liter PL engine block.  There's a reason why they call the PL 2.0 a "bubble 
block."  The block just has a lot more metal in it around the cylinders.  HTH
