If you put your key in the lock barrel while it is out of the handle you can
then file the ends of the brass tumblers so your own key will work.  Might
make it slightly easier for a chance thief trying keys in your car, on the
offchance that they'll fit, but I've done it several times with no problems.
Also solves the problem of finding a s/h lock with a key - any lock will do!

I don't remember how I did that on my GTI long time ago,
but it's not hard to figure out how it's working and easy
to remove it. And do the reverse to put the new one in.
