Yous should still get the fuel pump coming on for a couple of seconds when
you first turn the key, even if there is a problem with the ignition
module/coil circuit.  In normal operation, the pump relay relies on pulses
from the coil LT circuit to keep the relay solenoid activated, but there is
a couple of second delay built in when the relay is first activated, to
allow for the fact that the engine isn't initially turning.

when i thought my fuel pump was going by obvious symptoms
it was actually either my ignition control module or coil i replaced both
and it ran ever since
