Mono wiper question

How do you get the wiper to rest in the middle of the windshield when
off and still sweep the entire windshield when on? Also how do I get the
damn thing to move quicker? On high speed it still takes awhile to do
its thing. Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered before but I never paid
attention then.
