water pump probs

has anybody else had this problem:
my water pump pulley is coming in contact with my crank pulley.  Those two
pulleys are just too damn close together.  I dont see how they can move
anyway.  They are both mounted solidly.  And no, it's not my water pump
bearing that's out, i just replaced the pump because it was worn out, but
the pulleys still are rubbing on each other.  Has anyone else had this
problem or is it just normal for the pulleys to be so close.
