By some strange co-incidence the scirocco.net web pages contain a
pictorial of how to do this, as I recall.  Crappy digital pictures (which is
why I sold my digital cam for the rally scirocco pictorial project)
but they definately get the job done.

Special tools?  Depends on the parts you get.  Maybe some snap-ring
pliers, the 9mm 12point hex head socket, the band-clamp pliers, dunno
what else might not be simple... AH!  the 30mm socket for the hub...
(get an impact one)
