A-ha, our friend Torque has paid you a visit.
Find a Bentley manual.  Sounds like you'll need to adjust the shift plate
(the one on top of the tranny tunnel with the "eyeball" for the shift lever,
accessible by removing the shift lever boot).  Two bolts; may require
another person good at measuring things underneath the car to help get the
tolerances right.  Work it out, and it should shift perfectly in all 6 gates
(5 if you've a 4-speed).
