The last 2H I removed from an 84 GTI had 90mm flanges.  It also had
the green flange cover that you refer to, so it's not an indicator of
100mm flanges...Since the change over to 100mm flanges happened right
around 84-85, what year did your 2H come from?  What the year digit
on it's number plate?  I'm going to hazard a guess that it's a 3 or 4.
If I remember right, it's the last digit.
