Re: raceing schools

Well, naturally I've got the scoop on the rally schools. And given that
rallying demands the types of skills that are most easily transferred to
driving on the street, I'll offer the opinion that you'll benefit most from
this type of instruction. Of course, I'm assuming that you do want to put
whatever instruction you receive to use in this way.

There are but three on the east coast. The least expensive one (about $300)
that will also enable you to earn your ProRally license is the "Ski Sawmill
Rally School". Finish the instructional part successfully and you in an actual
ProRally the very next day. Of course, you'll need to bring your own rallycar
or rent one. I've done this school and the rally twice, already and heartily
recommend it. I can't find the damned website, but contact Ken Beard, Lesley
Suddard, or Ed Brennan for some info:
brennan@ebtec.com, LesleySuddard@compuserve.com, or kenbeard@nfdc.net

And then there are the two super high-end options without an actual rally to
participate in. This is where you'll learn the most advanced techniques and not
have to provide a car for yourself. The first is Tim O'Niel's school up in
northern New Hampshire. I'm casually acquainted with Tim, having hung out with
him a few times at rallies. He's known to be a little bit disorganized but he
is an absolutely brilliant driver. Remember that red G60 Rally Golf from the
early nineties? That was him! Here's the link to his site.

The next school, located in sunny Florida, is brand new and unproven. However,
the director, Ivor Wigham, is a British National Champion; anyone who knows the
level of compettition over there will fully realize what an accomplishment this
is. I'd say that it makes him a god amongst men. Not only is this guy "at the
level" he'll give you a shot at driving a Subaru Impreza WRX STi. This will be
the closest that many get to being Colin McRae. Well, actually Colin is driving
a Ford now, but y'all know what I mean.

Here's the guy's email address: ivor@hitter.net. And this is his website's
address: http://www.gorally.com/

And... you know what... there is one school out in California. Hmm, where is
that link... Okay, here we go. http://californiarallyseries.com/crspro.htm I
really know nothing about this one, but maybe its closer to ya.

Of course, if you want to travel all the way to England or Wales, you might
want to attend one of the following schools...

Alright, my fingers are sore now...
