Have to agree with you, I joined in July of last year and received a welcome
pack, since then one newsletter, I've received nothing of use from them, no
useful technical articles, no useful contacts, no area get togethers
nothing!
For $25 you can join the official VW club, in two shows last year I was at
they were offering free hot dogs and sodas to members.  Well, my wife and 2
kids got the food & drink also, so for that $25 alone I got my money's worth
in food & drink when you consider how expensive it is for 4 people to eat at
a show.  Plus you get 10% off parts at your friendly stealership, I use that
every time (confuses the hell out of the cashiers). Also got a t shirt and
one of those pewter key chains, a new bug pin etc etc
