I too, share your youth and love for four-cyl cars.

Off-topic: Driving a Subaru is weird. It's sorta like a VW, but sorta like a 
GM, but it's Japanese.

It has, of course the flat four (watercooled, tho), so it sounds like an 
aircooled beetle. That flat four is a funny engine. It's weak, and all the 
torque is around 2k-3k. Going up on-ramps revving up to 4k-5k is pointless 
cause I'd get there just as fast if I weren't burning a few gallons of gas.

But it's like an old American car, in that the flat four is a lot more like 
a V engine than an inline four. And it's mounted inline. And I have a 
driveshaft in it (4WD).

But it's Japanese.

It's just a really weird car when I think hard about it.

Tech weekend at my house -- May 1st, 2000! hah! I can't wait for winter to 
be over.
