An easy way to remember which way a distributor rotor turns is to look at the 
vacuum advance/retard pot.  You'll notice the pot goes into the distributor 
body on a tangent.  If you imagine a line from the pot pointing into the body 
and then continuing around the body, that's the direction the rotor turns(CW 
in our case).  This theory applys to all distributors that have an external 
advance mechanism.  So turning the body in the same direction that the rotor 
turns, CW, will then retard(later) the timing and CCW(earlier) will advance 
the timing.
This is my teach you to fish vs. give you a fish philosophy.
