Norm,

This is a fairly easy fix. The e-brake handle has a
pivot where the two cables come in. The button is part
of a j shaped hook that releases a lever with teeth
which in turn locks to another toothed part. THe j
hook can come loose if the cables jump off the pivot.

I don't have it or my bentley in front of me but can
give you more detailed info when I get home, if you
need by then.
