No, actually stock struts are filed with oil (in the inserts) and ATF or
even coolant in the strut tube. If the strut were blown, there would be
evidence starting at the top of the strut nut and running down to the
rotor. Braking would be effected (Right Eric? LOL. Road trip to WF 98'.)
and every single strut that leaked fluid STUNK. 

I think you have a torn outter CV boot. Thats the only place on the car
that holds grease is the 4 CV's on the axles.
