I had an ex-GF with and '84 'rocco.  She had the timing belt break on the
freeway at 70mph.  No damage to the engine or valve train.  Just had to put
a new timing belt on.  A high lift cam might cause an interference but not a
stock cam.  16v engines are interference according to my dealer and if the
belt breaks you could be SOL.  HTH
