Ok Ok,

Your sure it out of gear???  (couldn't resist)

When you turned the motor, how far did it turn before it when "wham"....and 
can you turn it back the other way at all.

Did you take the timing belt and all the other belts off the motor yet? 
 Any of the Alt, A/C compressor, timing belt associated things can cause 
enough resistance to make it hard or impossible to turn the motor by hand.

Why just yesterday here in the shop we had a quantum that was all bound up 
in a similar fashion due to a roasted A/C compressor clutch.
