Brian, drilling and slotting (as well as the stock vented) rotors are 
techniques used to increase the rate of heat transfer AWAY from the 
rotor-pad contact area. If the pads get too hot, their coefficient of 
friction changes (it drops) and so they stop working. This is known as 
Fade. It usually only occurs after extended periods of hard braking.
