Sal,

Does your friend have the other half of the key?  This happened to my brother and what he did was put a drop of Crazy Glue on the half of the key, insert it into the ignition and left it there for a minute or so until the glue dried.  When he pulled the key out, the end of the key that was broken off in the ignition had stuck to the other end and came out.  Just make sure not to put too much glue on there...just a drop.
