Re: Specs for recurving dist on 8v ???

Whoa...  question mark overload!!  heheh, must be your keyboard

Now, here is a little known fact that I was sworn to secrecy on....  but I'm willing to face the consequences, just to help you out.  Stock distributors are designed to *advance* the timing as the rpms go up...  this is just a ploy by big brother to make our cars slower.  What you really want to do is *retard* the ignition timing, this will really make an improvement in how your car runs.  Initial timing should be set around 6 degrees AFTER top dead center, with a maximum of 30 degrees ATDC, which should all be in by about 3000 rpm.  This can be achieved by removing the vacuum line from the distributor (if your car is so equipped) and instead plumbing a line that points straight out the front of your grill, inducing a "RAM AIR" effect.  The idea is to pressurize this line instead of drawing a vacuum....

Hope this helps  ;)

Hello everyone..........even you 16v elitist SNOBS !!!   (hehehehe JK!!) My recently acquired VW mechanic does recurves. I can get one done for the cost of one hours labour. So, my question, are there any specs I can pass along that might make it more than a "here ya go" recurve???  Is there some kind of spec that can be attached to the recurve final settings?? What is the Euro distributor curved at???    In case he can duplicate it with my "spare" dist I will be using.          Thanks all.
