Re: [tech] Front end *THUNK*

Jason,

I've had that sound! It is caused by one of your front springs
turning in it's perch. There's no way I know of to more firmly attach
the spring to the perch, but maybe it's an indication that the upper
strut bearing is seizing on the strut rather than allowing the strut
to turn when you turn the wheel and back up. I haven't heard the
sound out of my front end since I changed the upper strut bearings!

Hey,
While I'm at it, I might as well ask all my questions. :)

Ever since I got my car, at 28,000 miles, I have been treated
with a
*THUNK* occasionally from the front suspension. It's always present
after
a change of direction... like I will back into a parking space, and
when
the wheel is turned to a high degree of lock, sometimes, as I'm
starting to
move, I will get a thunk.
Then, when I pull forward, I will get another.

These noises never bothered me all that much. They still
don't, really...
but it got suddenly worse after I auto-crossed the car 2 weeks ago.
It's
not "bad", but I get a thunk or two probably every other time I pull
into a
parking space, or out of one. Like I said, I'm not overly concerned,
but
if it's a simple fix, I'll take care of it before it gets out of hand.

The car has just shy of 61k on it, with new strut bearings,
shocks, and
springs, if that helps, and is an 87 16v.

TIA!
	Jason
