I feel your pain, brother.
Mine went about 3 months ago, and Ive been living with just flipping the 
little latch up to close it.
Ive talked to a few different people on this and the bad news is, you 
have to get another assembly, the good news is, there's plenty in the 
junkyard and its easy to do.
