yea I 've seen this too.  A local shop used to use these on their 
circle track race cars.  I seen a 2.0 version man was that thing 
responsive.  ( I have actually got a ride down the road in one of 
these.  Lots of smoke even in second gear with 10" slicks)
It is actually a pretty easy swap.  only the race gas gets $$$fast

Just got back from the local vw shop and they had a cabby up on the 
lift with the head out..seems this guy, who by the looks of his car 
knows what the hell he's doing, is running a p/p 8v head (JH) on a
16v 1.8L bottom end. seems the guy flatsided his ..rods? anyways the 
engine is at like 14:1 compression, had a really decent custom header
on it. they were swapping out pistons on it to lower the compression 
since the guy no longer has access to racing fuel all the time or 
something...must have been a screamer of an engine!

just thought i'd share,with all the talks about will this head work 
with this blah blah blah
