Re: 0 to 50 and 60 mph.

The published figure for an '83 8v is 10.7sec (R&T).
I got 9.2 out of my '83 with my catless, mufflerless exhaust and a K&N,
175/70/13 tires on those "spider" 13x5.5 inch alloys and a 2H tranny.
I get 15.8 out of my '86 with an FN (wide ratio) tranny, slightly blocked cat
(NO power above 5000rpm), and 185/60/14's on bottlecap alloys.
and my '84 GTi gets like 8.0, I think, but that's whole different story...
(these are all very rough stopwatch times, as timed by my brother sitting in
the seat next to me, with the exception of the GTi, which is just a guess, and
probably optimistic).
So, as you can see, the same JH engine can pull a car of approximately the same
weight to 60 mph in radically different times!
If your car is healthy (no blocked cat, etc), I'd shift at like, maybe 5500rpm?
These engines seem to peak at about 4800rpm, stock, IME. With free-flowing
exhaust, maybe they peak a bit higher, so shift more at like 6000rpm. Hmmm...
I'd expect more like 11sec from your car, maybe 12, since you probably can't
drive like R&T : ) Neither can I!
