FYI, they can pull you over to simply check to see if you have a drivers
licence and registration. (and insurance where applicaple.) So dont get
in an uproar when they give you a reason, lame or not. 
I've known cops to pull over people for USING their turn signals. Why? To
give them an attaboy.

Its been my experience that the vast majority of cops have this attitude
which makes them assholes. Part of it is it all goes to their heads. They
have things they can do that regular people cant do. Its a power trip. 

The others are just stuck into the negativity of being a cop and dealing
with the scum of the earth day in and day out. Having people lie to them
everytime they open their mouths. Constant excuses of WHY they ran the
stop sign. Crap like that. Its a very depressing job (It was for me and
thats why I got out of it.) which puts one in a depression which the
public sees quite often. 
"Officer asshole at your service. How can I f*ck up your day, sir or
mam"? That was my motto for a while. 

So, thats why.
