[humble][death to a M3 tonight]

I just walked in the door from a very odd experience. I was driving my
Roc home from visiting my grandfather in the hospital tonight. I was east
bound on I-8 just before the 805 freeway.

Im in the #2 lane doing about 70 creeping up on a truck in the #3 lane.
All at once i get this terrific bright light in thru my passenger side
window. First instinct was, my gawd, that's some bright ass lights.
Second instinct was, that's really out of the ordinary.

So I look out the window to see a set of headlights turning right and
immediately rolling over and over. This car was on a freeway onramp that
for me at least, is usually alot of fun because its twisty and if you use
the right line, is a blast. Its the last onramp before the 805 freeway I
think.

So, now im moving to the fast lane (rather quickly I might add) and
watching the car and it rolls over and over and in behind me where it
backed into the center divide. It rolled at least 5 times that I counted.
(I did too. Kind of odd after the fact but I was actually saying 1! 2! 3!
4! 5!) He was really flying before he spun!

I really thought this was going to be a bad accident so I stopped to help
out as best I could. I ran up to the window of the driver and turned off
the ignition he was simply beat to hell. Cuts all over, but he was
breathing. His girlfriend was awake, alert and from what I saw, unharmed!
I couldn't believe that she was OK. She starts to panic and freak out and
I get to use my cop routine on her and tell her to calm down and then get
into her helping him. Stuff like that. he had a huge gash on the right
side of his head. Ive never seen the skull of a living person before.
Odd. I ended up finding his jacket in the back seat (I wasn't gonna use
my Scirocco shirt, it was too COLD out!) and wadded it up for her to use
as a compress. (See, the army's first aid training paid off after all.
And best of all, I wasn't using it on myself!)

She calmed down really well and began to talk to him. Im really proud of
how she handled the situation. he finally did come around and like
anybody with a head wound, began to fight. Unfortunately, ive seen this
kind of behavior before with a head injury so I was kind of expecting it.
he calmed down and regained consciousness. He wanted her to drive them
out of there. I told him, your car is totalled you cant drive it
anywhere.

His car was a 4dr M3 (is that right, M3's are also 4 doors?) with a body
kit, lowered with 18" Antera funky wheels. All the door windows were
broken, oil pan busted, windshield cracked, drivers side roof line
pancaked in, left front wheel smashed, passenger side wheels broken. He
hit the center divide so hard that the contents of the trunk flew out and
the mat that sits on top of the spare tire was draped over the center
divide.
I looked at he spedo and it had 23,000 miles on it.

I got one thing to say about BMW's. They are damn safe cars. I knew that
in an accident, the hazards come on automatically and the fuel pump is
shut off. It worked flawlessly. I still cant get over how she was
unharmed. That was the most violent rollover that I have ever seen.
(Except for maybe <NASCAR> Rusty Wallaces rollover at Daytona the one
year.) There was glass and mulched ice plant all across the freeway. Im
still shocked I guess.
Anyways, I drove home about 60mph after that. I just finished washing the
blood off of my arms and I just cant get the smell out of my nose.

Anyways, that's what happened. Im sure he survived for those curious. It
was just a really bad feeling about the whole thing.

The ironic thisg is, if I hadn't raced this truck to the 8 east onramp, I
would of been right about where the BMW came across the freeway. man.
