EEC-IV

ahh, this is interesting.

The Ford EEC-IV system is one of thebest systems I have ever seen. It is able
to completely adapt to changes on the car. It is this system that helps make
the mustang one of the performance bargains of the decade as you can add
blowers or turbos or whatever and the EEC will adapt to it, and the only time
you need to make changes is when things like injectors can't deliver enough
fuel for you blower. this is not a nescessary change for paxton kits and the
like and mild nitrous.

The EEC is tunable, with performance chips (actually mount downstream of the
computer as when you actually change the chip the computer learns and changes
back) and after market ignitons(including retard controls) work well with it.

The neatest thing about the system, and this is a BIG difference from other
fuel injection systems, particularly GM and Chrysler, is it does real time
diagnostics- it tell you what is going on RIGHT NOW instead of using stored
codes to tell you something happened at some point. you can do this with
special tools on GM cars but those code readers are 'spensive- to do it on a
EEC-IV all you need is a test light.

It would be neat to adapt this system to a rocco but IMHO this would be an
incredible PITA. Each individual car has a different computer- mustang, crown
vic, pickup- they are all different. plus adding all those sensors...

oh, and one more thing, the 86-89 EEV-IV systems on the mustang, as well as
earlier systems on other cars (CFI on Crown Vics and LTD's) is Speed density.
this sucks. you want the mass air system, 90-93 mustangs have it. and stay
away from the MCU system (came of 351 windors with VV carb and a few others)
And Stay away from EEC III- not only is it speed density but you cannot even
adjust the timing on it. completely computer controlled, no chips available.

sorry for the length, but my .02
